Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana Excluded from US Visa Waiver Programme for 2025

Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana are among several African countries not included in the United States’ updated Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) for 2025. The U.S. Department of State recently announced the revised list, which features 40 eligible countries and updated travel policies aimed at simplifying visa-free entry into the United States.

This year, Romania joined the VWP as a new entrant, while Taiwan and the United Kingdom remain eligible under specific conditions. The list includes countries such as Australia, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and Qatar, among others, allowing their citizens to visit the U.S. for tourism or business purposes without a visa for up to 90 days.

The VWP offers a streamlined alternative to traditional visa applications through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). While most of the programme’s criteria remain unchanged, recent updates emphasize enhanced security checks and stronger diplomatic ties with participating countries.

Moral Lesson: Global opportunities often come with evolving policies—stay informed and prepared to adapt.
