“President Bola Tinubu Seeks Emergency Review to Prevent Release of Academic Records to Atiku Abubakar”
President Bola Tinubu has taken swift action in response to a recent court order from Judge Jeffrey Gilbert of the United States District Court. This order, issued on September 19, mandated Chicago State University to release Mr. Tinubu’s academic records to his Nigerian political rival, Atiku Abubakar, as part of an ongoing election challenge proceeding in Nigeria.
Judge Gilbert’s directive specified that the academic records must be delivered to Mr. Abubakar by September 21, with school administrators required to provide sworn certification for all released records.
However, as Chicago State University prepared to comply with this order, President Tinubu has filed an emergency application within the district. His application requests a senior judge to review Judge Gilbert’s September 19 order and postpone its execution, ideally until September 25.
In their statement, Mr. Tinubu’s legal team, led by Christopher Carmichael, emphasized their intention to submit a comprehensive brief addressing what they perceive as errors in the Magistrate’s decision.
To address this pressing matter, Judge Nancy Maldonado of the district has scheduled an urgent hearing, set for 3:00 p.m. local time. This virtual conference will involve legal representatives from all parties, including Chicago State University, President Bola Tinubu, and Atiku Abubakar.
Further details will be provided following the outcome of this hearing.
