Singer Portable Declared Wanted by Ogun Police Over Assault on Government Officials
The Ogun State Police Command has declared popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, wanted for allegedly leading a violent attack on government officials during an enforcement exercise in Ota.
The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, detailing how Portable, armed with a firearm and other weapons, reportedly led nine thugs in an assault on three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The Incident
On February 5, 2025, at about 10:00 AM, the enforcement officers—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were carrying out their duties in Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, when they approached an elderly man, later identified as Portable’s father, at Odogwu Bar in the area.
The officials requested the approved building plan for the location, but were informed that Portable was unavailable. Moments later, the singer allegedly arrived with his gang and launched an attack, leaving the officials with various bodily injuries before they managed to escape and report the incident to the police.
Legal Action and Police Response
Following the attack, the case was escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and nine accomplices were arrested, while Portable fled the scene and went into hiding. The police issued multiple invitations for him to appear at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, but he reportedly ignored all summons without cause or legal representation.
Given his continued evasion of law enforcement, the police obtained a valid court order officially declaring Portable wanted.
Call for Public Assistance
The police have urged the public to provide any valuable information that could lead to his immediate arrest, warning that anyone found aiding or harboring the singer will face legal consequences.
Meanwhile, two weeks ago, the police had arraigned nine of Portable’s associates before the Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on five counts, including felony, assault, unlawful possession of weapons, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
What’s Next for Portable?
This is not the first time Portable has had run-ins with the authorities, and this latest development raises serious legal concerns about his career and public image. With the Ogun State Police Command determined to bring him to justice, all eyes are on how this case unfolds.
