Wizkid’s Swift Verse Submission Leaves Shenseea in Awe
Dancehall star Shenseea recently opened up about the incredible speed and professionalism of Wizkid during their collaboration on her track “Work Me Out.” With just two days left to finalize her album, Shenseea was desperate to get a verse from the Afrobeats king, Wizkid.
“I sent ‘Work Me Out’ to Wizkid to record his verse, and I was already left with just 2 days to turn in the album. I told my record label that if Wizkid doesn’t send his verse, then I’m never ever gonna drop an album again,” Shenseea revealed. In a move that left her stunned, Wizkid returned his verse in just five minutes. “I was shocked when Wizkid sent me back his verse in 5 minutes. So big up to Wiz for that, and I think Wizkid is the king of Afrobeats.”
Shenseea’s admiration for Wizkid goes beyond just this collaboration. “I chose Wizkid out of everybody to be on ‘Work Me Out’ because he’s the best African artist I know. I really wanted him on my project so bad that I could’ve done anything. I’m a big fan of Afro-artists—I love their music and the artists as well, but for the ones that I’ve met. But Wizkid, to me, is like the king of Afrobeats. We’ve worked before; I was on his last album, and this time I was like, now I need you on my own album.”
The collaboration, according to Shenseea, came at the perfect moment. “We were trying to find something dope, but I think ‘Work Me Out’ came at the right time. When I sent it to him, it was like at the last point when I needed to turn in the album. When I sent it to him, I told the label to wait for a few days until we get a verse from Wizkid, but I was shocked when Wizkid sent me back his verse in 5 minutes. Wizkid is so fast and efficient.”
This revelation highlights not only Wizkid’s incredible work ethic but also his commitment to fellow artists, cementing his status as a true icon in the Afrobeats genre.
