In a recent interview, Ronami Ogulu, Burna Boy’s sister, shared some surprising insights into the early stages of the Grammy-winning artist’s career, particularly the sacrifices their mother, Bose Ogulu, made as his manager.
According to Ronami, their mother didn’t pay herself for managing Burna Boy until the end of 2018. This was a decision she made out of pure love and dedication, believing that her priority was to support her son’s career without focusing on financial gain. “I was the one who forced her to pay herself because she just believed that she was doing the best for her son,” Ronami revealed.
One particularly striking revelation was that Burna Boy was unaware of performing at shows for just N100,000. Ronami explained that their mother knew Burna wouldn’t agree to perform for such a fee, so she would personally add another N100,000 and tell him the fee was N200,000. This was all in a bid to ensure Burna gained the exposure necessary for his career growth.
Ronami also disclosed that their mother financed Burna Boy’s first international tour entirely on her own. Her dedication and belief in her son’s talent drove her to make these financial sacrifices, all to help Burna Boy reach the heights of success he enjoys today. The first time she ever took payment for her managerial role was in 2018, and even that was only after Ronami insisted.
This story is a testament to the unwavering support and sacrifices that often go unseen behind the scenes of a superstar’s rise to fame.
