Tragedy in Jigawa: Over 90 Lives Lost in Devastating Petrol Tanker Explosion
A devastating petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has claimed the lives of over 90 people, with at least 50 others hospitalized with severe injuries. The incident occurred late Tuesday night when a petrol tanker, en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, lost control and exploded near Khadija University.
Jigawa State Police Spokesperson, Mr. Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the tragic loss of lives, attributing the high casualty numbers to the crowd that gathered at the scene despite repeated warnings from authorities to avoid accident sites involving fuel tankers.
Efforts are underway to manage the aftermath, with a mass burial planned for the victims and medical treatment being provided to those injured. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by fuel tanker accidents and the importance of adhering to safety warnings in such situations.
