Peter Obi Raises Concerns Over Tinubu and Shettima’s Simultaneous Foreign Trips
Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra State, has voiced his concerns about President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s simultaneous absence from Nigeria due to foreign trips. With numerous domestic crises on the rise, Obi has criticized the move, calling it fiscally irresponsible and out of touch with the realities facing Nigerians.
Obi highlighted the fact that President Tinubu initially promised to be away for just 14 days, but has now exceeded that timeframe, leaving the nation’s pressing issues unattended. In his critique, Obi pointed out that while the President was in Paris, he could have easily traveled to Stockholm, Sweden, to attend the 2-day working visit rather than delegating Shettima to make the nine-hour journey from Abuja.
At a time when the country faces significant challenges such as widespread hunger and poverty, Obi argued that Tinubu’s absence signals a disconnect between the government and the people it serves. He urged for a more efficient use of resources and a leadership approach that prioritizes the well-being of the citizens over costly international trips.
Obi’s message is clear—Nigeria needs hands-on leadership, especially in times of economic strain. The simultaneous foreign trips not only raise concerns about fiscal responsibility but also the perception of commitment to addressing the country’s growing domestic issues.
