In response to the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, the Osun State Government has taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its citizens. Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state, effective from Wednesday, July 31, 2023. The decision aims to safeguard lives and property during the anticipated demonstrations.

The directive was communicated by Mr. M.A.K Jimoh, the Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Education, on Monday evening. The announcement informed school administrators, parents, guardians, and the general public of the immediate commencement of the third term vacation for students. This preemptive measure is intended to prevent any potential harm to students and school personnel that could arise during the protest.

In a public service announcement issued in Osogbo, the state government emphasized the importance of this decision, urging all stakeholders to comply. The announcement read, “Parents and Guardians are advised to ensure the safety of their wards during the vacation.” This advisory underscores the government’s commitment to the well-being of its residents amidst the growing tensions surrounding the protest.

The Osun State Government’s proactive stance reflects a broader concern for maintaining public order and safety. As the protest approaches, citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety and that of their families. The closure of schools is a precautionary step to avoid any unforeseen incidents and to protect the young and vulnerable during these uncertain times.
