Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II, the monarch of Oyotunji African Village in Beaufort County, South Carolina, USA, has tragically passed away. The 47-year-old king was allegedly stabbed to death by his sister, Akiba Kasale Meredith, during a heated argument on Monday, July 29, 2024.

According to reports, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) received a distress call around 2:45 p.m. regarding a stabbing incident at the village, located on Bryant Lane. The victim, identified as Oba Adefunmi II, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meredith, 53, fled the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly afterward. She has been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center. The authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II, a notable figure in the African-American and Yoruba communities, was known for his leadership in the Oyotunji African Village, a cultural hub that celebrates Yoruba traditions and culture. In a 2017 interview with Punch, the late monarch revealed that he had seven wives living in various locations, including Canada, Oyotunji, and Virginia.
