NNPP Chairman Criticizes President Tinubu Over Kano Emirate Issue

Hashim Dungurawa, the chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, recently made headlines with allegations against President Bola Tinubu regarding the Kano Emirate issue. According to Dungurawa, Tinubu is allegedly destabilizing Kano State by backing the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, due to their shared Yoruba lineage.

In a statement to journalists in Kano, Dungurawa expressed concern over what he perceives as undue interference by Tinubu in Kano’s internal affairs. He criticized the special protection given to Emir Bayero against the state government’s interests, including security measures involving the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, and other agencies.

Dungurawa warned that Tinubu’s alleged involvement in the Kano Emirate issue could have electoral repercussions in the 2027 elections. He declared that the NNPP would field Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as its presidential candidate, confidently asserting that Kwankwaso would be Nigeria’s next president.

The NNPP chairman also called for a review of the 2019 election outcomes in Kano State, disputing the legitimacy of Abdullahi Ganduje’s second term as governor under the APC banner. He emphasized that relying on ethnic affiliations and perceived alliances in Kano, particularly with Bayero’s Yoruba lineage, would not secure political support as Tinubu might expect.

Dungurawa’s remarks underscore the contentious nature of political maneuvering in Nigeria, particularly ahead of the 2027 elections. The Kano Emirate issue serves as a focal point of regional and ethnic politics, reflecting broader tensions and ambitions within the country’s political landscape.

As the situation unfolds, the statements by Dungurawa highlight ongoing debates over governance, electoral integrity, and the role of regional dynamics in shaping Nigeria’s political future.
