In a significant move, the Nigerian Senate has confirmed seven new ministerial nominees put forward by President Bola Tinubu, including Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu. This confirmation follows a rigorous screening session on Wednesday after the initial exercise was postponed.
Last week, the presidency announced the dismissal of five ministers in a strategic cabinet reshuffle, citing the removal of Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Minister of Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Minister of Tourism), Tahir Mamman (Minister of Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development), and Jamila Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development). In their place, President Tinubu nominated seven new individuals, highlighting his administration’s dedication to meeting national goals with refreshed leadership.
The confirmed nominees are:
- Nentawe Yilwatda
- Muhammadu Dingyadi
- Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu
- Jumoke Oduwole
- Idi Maiha
- Yusuf Abdullahi Ata
- Suwaiba Ahmad
With the Senate’s approval, these ministers are set to assume roles that will influence critical areas of national development. The appointments comply with Section 147 of the Nigerian Constitution, underscoring the importance of Senate approval for executive appointments. This reshuffle is anticipated to bring about a renewed focus within the administration, as each new minister brings unique expertise and insights to the table.
