Kanye West has always been known for his controversial and thought-provoking statements. In a recent discussion, he delved into the reasons behind the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Kanye argued that King’s death wasn’t solely due to his famous “I Have a Dream” speech but rather because of his advocacy for Black empowerment and economic independence.
“Martin Luther King didn’t get killed because of ‘I HAD A DREAM,'” Kanye stated. “He got killed because he had something else he was talking about, something they don’t want us Blacks to know. He was talking about Black Empowerment and Economic Empowerment. They don’t want us Blacks to know that we can buy land here. They don’t want us to have 100% ownership of our assets.”
Kanye emphasized the importance of ownership, using his own success with Yeezy as an example. “I have 100% ownership at Yeezy,” he said, highlighting his commitment to maintaining full control over his brand. He further expressed his willingness to speak out on these issues, despite the potential consequences. “The reason why I say these things out loud in this way is because I want to be killed,” Kanye remarked, alluding to the risks he faces for challenging the status quo.
Through his comments, Kanye West underscored the ongoing struggle for economic and social justice for the Black community, highlighting the importance of owning and controlling one’s assets as a form of empowerment.
