Nigerian comedian OGB recently found himself at the center of controversy after being accused of trolling Afrobeats superstar Wizkid on Twitter. In a heartfelt plea, OGB addressed the accusations, asserting his innocence and expressing his admiration for Wizkid.
“Wizkid FC, please I’m not on Twitter. I have never insulted Wizkid, Davido, or Burna Boy. I know that the fear of Wizkid is the beginning of wisdom,” OGB stated, referencing the respect and reverence many fans hold for Wizkid. He explained that he had been wrongly accused of calling Wizkid the “only 002” in a tweet, which led to backlash from the artist’s loyal fanbase, known as Wizkid FC.
OGB clarified, “The other time Tunde Ednut messaged me that he saw a post on Twitter where I called Wizkid the only 002, please, it’s not me. This is the second time that I’m tending an apology to Wizkid FC.” He emphasized that he does not have a Twitter account and that any such posts attributed to him are the work of impersonators. In an effort to show sincerity, OGB even dressed in traditional Yoruba attire, hoping to convey the seriousness of his message to the public and particularly to Yoruba-speaking fans.
“Anybody who is using my name on Twitter to troll Big Wiz is an impersonator. After I apologized the first time, I don’t know if Yoruba people didn’t understand what I said, so I decided to dress in Yoruba attire today to show how serious I am,” he continued. OGB expressed concern that these false accusations could damage his reputation and livelihood. He pleaded, “Please, as I have not destroyed another person’s name, please don’t destroy mine.”
In closing, OGB stated, “I leave the guy that is running that fake account in my name in the hands of God, but Wizkid FC, please know that I’m not on Twitter. I love Wizkid.” His statement underscores his respect for the artist and his desire to maintain a positive image amidst the chaos.
