Bobrisky Scandal: FG Suspends Kirikiri Prisons Officers Amid Allegations of VIP Treatment
The Federal Government has taken swift action, suspending key officers in charge of the Maximum and Medium Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos, following leaked audio exposing a scandal involving Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky. The audio revealed that the convicted social media star, sentenced to six months in prison, allegedly paid for a luxury apartment outside the facility.
The Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Ja’afaru Ahmed, announced the suspension in a statement on Thursday. This comes after Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, ordered an investigation into the claims.
The suspended officers include Deputy Controllers of Corrections Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, both from the Kirikiri facility, as well as others linked to similar allegations of corruption. The investigation promises to uncover the truth, with findings to be made public in due course.
