In a candid revelation, B Red, the brother of Nigerian music sensation Davido, shed light on their challenging journey before the music industry began paying off. Reflecting on their early struggles, B Red shared, “Davido and I were actually broke before the music started paying off. There were times we could barely feed. While we were in school in America, we had jobs and used to work from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am every day before going to school.”
He recounted the resistance they faced from their parents when they first expressed their desire to pursue music. “When Davido and I told our parents that we wanted to do music, our parents told us to focus on our studies and that they never wanted to see us behind a microphone. So we had to prove ourselves to our parents. We went back to America, I was in Atlanta and Davido was in Alabama. They separated us so we wouldn’t do music together.”
Despite the separation, their passion for music didn’t waver. B Red described the hardships they endured while trying to make ends meet. “When I got there, things were so hard that I had to get a job. I was actually a chef in America. Davido also got a job in Alabama, and after school every day, we worked all night from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.”
B Red emphasized that their struggle was personal, despite coming from a wealthy family. “When we say we were broke before, we’re talking about our own pockets, not our family. Even though we’re rich, our parents didn’t give us much money and didn’t support us financially with our music. We had to fend for ourselves.”
This story serves as a powerful reminder that success doesn’t come easy, regardless of one’s background. Everyone faces their own set of challenges and must overcome them to achieve their dreams. B Red’s account of their journey underscores the importance of perseverance and determination in the face of adversity.
